The Theatre Unit covers an area of 1100 sq/m. The design guarantees the correct circulation of patients and equipment used inside the Operating Theatres. The Unit is divided into two large areas: one Major Surgical Unit and one Day Case Unit where the Obstetrics Department and Endoscopic Procedure Room can also be found.
Major Surgical Unit
In the Major Surgical Unit the circulation of patients and equipment is always on a one way system in order to guarantee maximum asepsis. All the Theatres have an automated climatization system and completely filtered ventilation which include passageways as well as accesses.
>The operating Theatres all have standardized equipment with state of the art technology and provide the following:
- Direct access to the computerized Medical History from inside the theatre.
- Dragger Primus artificial respirators.
- Haemodynamic monitors (invasive and non-invasive) with heart monitor, neurological monitor and CO2 reading.
- Double Surgical Lamps with 150.000 Luxes each and digital recording camera.
- Fully electronic operating tables with accessories for all procedures.
- Triple medical gas points with evacuation of anaesthetic gasses.
- Automatic and electronic door sealed at entrance and exit of patient.
- Pre-anaesthesia zone adjacent to each operating theatre.
- State of the art electronic scalpel with Argon and Ligasure module.
Surgical Day Case Unit
The Unit has a Day Case Operating Theatre with a large adjacent recovery room. This unit is used for Eye surgery, minimal invasive surgery and endoscopic procedures as most of these operations do not require hospitalization. This type of operation is intended to disrupt as little as possible the daily life of the patient and minimize the recovery period required and yet maintain the high standard of assistance within the Hospital without jeopardizing the safety of the patient.
Endoscopic Procedure Room
This Unit is found next to the Day Case Unit. It offers a high level of comfort and allows for the possibility of being sedated during the procedure so as not to jeopardize the patient’s safety. The Unit has digital video-colonoscopy and video-gastroscopy with an image recorder to study the digestive system and a video-bronchoscope for the study of lungs. It also has its own unit for cleaning and sterilizing equipment. Within the technical possibilities of this department there is a further implementation of the practice of therapeutic ndoscopy, oncological endoscopy and emergency endoscopy for bleeding patients.
The following equipment is available to the entire theatre unit:
- Kit of surgical instruments and pneumatic motors by Aesculap and Stryker
- High definition microscope for use of Neurosurgeon and other specialists with 3 CCD camera and recording system.
- Image intensifier; digitally connected to computer network.
- Digital Laparoscopy and Arthroscopy stands with “Intelligent Theatre” by the Storz Company with computerized system to register patients and record images.
- Cleaning and sterilization Unit for material and instruments with guaranteed traceability
Maternity
The Hospital offers a multidisciplinary Obstetrics Unit that provides 24 hour assistance coordinated by a team of gynaecologists with Midwives and Paediatricians present at the birth to provide the utmost care and service. The presence of anaesthetists in theatre enables the possibility of an Epidural if requested by the patient.
The Maternity Unit consists of two Labour Rooms and an adjacent Delivery Room
The equipment available in the Obstetrics Department is complimented with two foetal monitors, one of which is intrapartum, incubator, UV lamps and a resuscitation table for new-borns.
Cardiology Department
Hospital de Levante has invested in high technology in order to ensure that the centre provides a modern and integral Cardiology Department. It aims to reduce the use of invasive techniques for diagnostic purposes except for cases in which the patient is in need of treatment.
The Cardiology Department has the following equipment:
- Philips 7500 Ecoddopler, with 3 dimensional dynamic study capability in real time and a transesophagic probe.

- 16 slice Helicoidal CT Scan with rotational speed of 0.41 rotation/second with coronary package.

- Peripheric vascular Intervention Unit, for diagnosing and therapeutic treatments
- Electrophysiology team to study and treat heart rhythm problems.
